Today marks the New Moon in Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. Generally speaking, Aries is a headstrong, willful, and assertive sign given to impulsive activity. If the desire is there, then the action will follow, likely without hesitation. That is just the name of the game in this hasty and adventurous fiery energy. wait what 045

But there’s a snag. Mars, the ruling planet of Aries, is slowing down to turn retrograde from April 17 through June 29. Our engines are running on high, but the planet that represents movement is going in reverse for the next few months. Since it goes backwards from Sagittarius into Scorpio, much of the activity we will need to sort through relates to authenticity. It’s time to clean up the gray areas of entanglements that weigh us down– responsibilities and activities that drain us rather than renew us should be brought onto the scale of value. Why do we bother spending time on things that don’t matter? Use this Mars retrograde to fine tune where you invest physical energy and emotional passion.

Unabashed excitement is fun. Blunt and uncompromising behavior may be inspiring. But what happens when no one can talk diplomatically or let up on their point of view? We all hear people say flippantly that they “hate drama.” Really? I don’t see any other way to live a life in a human body without it. THAT IS WHAT LIFE IS. Google the word ‘drama’, and it states:  “an exciting, emotional, or unexpected series of events or set of circumstances.” Yup, that’s life. Just because you don’t like someone else’s drama, don’t pat yourself on the back for your stoic attitude. Drama is the thing that separates us from being dead, and it is silly to deny that it’s part of your life.

The key to this astrology is leaving room for other people’s drama. That doesn’t mean getting wrapped up in them. Mars retrograde is a wonderful time for introspection, and the fact that Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto are all going to be retrograde at the same time points to a definitive need for self-evaluation. We need to do some internal work for the rest of the month. But the problem comes in with this Aries fire burning– Venus just joined the Sun and Uranus here, and all of that leaves a churning need for extroverted expression. The danger here is that Mars retrograde can be a bit dysfunctional in its aggression. Bullying and self-righteousness are the downsides of this aspect, because we can all get really defensive about our positions.

Awareness, as always, is the whole point of astrology. Have a good game.
