Description
Cold sores are caused by a common virus, and often flare up in times of stress or after extreme weather/sun exposure. I wanted to make a lip balm that can be used both as a preventative and a remedy, to be proactive in defending against the annoying and painful outbreaks. Herbal Cold Sore Balm is made with natural and organic ingredients, and comes in a 1 oz tin. It has a fresh citrus and mint scent, and moisturizes and protects while helping to heal.Back in early February, I infused organic, cold pressed olive oil with 5 dried herbs: lemon balm, echinacea root, chamomile, licorice root, and calendula. Lemon balm (also known as Melissa) is used in herbal and aromatherapy traditions to relieve pain associated with cold sores, and to help shorten their duration. (Both the dried herb and essential oil of Melissa are used in this lip balm.) Echinacea offers immune system support, and helps the body defend itself from viruses in the environment. Chamomile and calendula are soothing to skin, and help heal any wounds or breakouts. And licorice root is a powerful anti-viral that combats Herpes Simplex Virus 1, the virus which causes cold sores.I blended the infused oil with organic Shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax. Then I added Melissa, Melaleuca (tea tree), Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and Palmarosa essential oils. The chemical properties of these essential oils assist in protecting the skin from viruses, and offer relief and comfort to painful cold sores. And lastly, I added pure Vitamin E and a lysine supplement made with liquid echinacea, licorice root, goldenseal root, and shitake mushroom extract–an immune system booster. Lysine is an essential amino acid that helps combat the cold sore virus.Herbal Cold Sore Balm comes in a 1 oz tin. $12.50 for local pick up/ plus $5 for S&H
