Astrology of July 2025

What will the astrology of July 2025 bring? The planets are aligning for significant impact over the next week, as the Moon closes out its lunar cycle and the Sun completes its annual transit of Cancer. Mercury stations retrograde in Leo at 12:45am EDT July 18, then Mars conjoins the south node in Virgo from July 20 through 22. This window of time will rekindle the past, sometimes in good ways, some in bad. But it’s perfect for cutting the cord—setting the intention for meaningful goodbyes, retaining the memories, but letting the negative emotions that are attached to them go.

July’s astrology has already left an impression. It’s as though we crested to the middle of the calendar year and stalled out.  Neptune and Saturn both went retrograde in Aries (July 4 and July 13, respectively), and now Chiron is slowing down to station retrograde in Aries on July 30. That means it’s a month of re-evaluation occurring at a deep soul level. Three retrogrades in the cardinal fire sign of the zodiac (Aries) indicate a period of restructuring—moving the battle inside. We can use it to strengthen willpower and self-reliance, focusing on conquering internal limitations rather than external ones.

Uranus enters Gemini

Outer planet Uranus has changed signs, too, shaking up consensual reality with some rapid-paced shock value. It entered Gemini on July 7, where it will stay for four months before backing up into Taurus again. Similar to Pluto and Neptune’s ingress into new signs, this influences the larger picture, the arc of history and culture.

Uranus is electrically charged. It rules technology and progress, social upheaval, and criminality. It’s the function of the psyche that questions regulations, that feels insubordinate toward authority and micromanagement. Gemini is an air sign- it moves quickly, circulating ideas and words. Planets in Gemini affect the way we see, speak, and communicate.

My guess is that Uranus in Gemini speculates to create dissidence- it’s looking for a way to dramatize differences of thought. It cracks the old story wide open. We approach things with speedy versatility, willing to eradicate old notions that seem narrow and boring. Everything sounds different to our ears. The revolving door of perspectives is spinning faster—people who were on one side now seem to be on another.

Midsummer Breaking Points

The astrology of midsummer sets the stage for some memorable turning points, potentially offering closure to a much longer battle. Mercury goes retrograde in fire sign Leo on July 18– the same area of the zodiac that Venus went retrograde in during July 2023, and then Mars stationed retrograde in during early December 2024. Mercury is the messenger planet, the go-between that perceives and offers clarity. Maybe we get some understanding about a struggle for value and worth that’s been dragging on for the last few years.

Mercury Retrograde

Criticism sounds sharper because Mercury in Leo is attuned to approval. Honor and loyalty are important to Leo, and Mercury is heightening our mental response regarding respect. It’s a good time to express support and admiration, to share strength and positivity, the gift of the element fire. Trouble comes in when Mercury’s demanding, self-centered streak overtakes the conversation. The static gets extra loud as we go through the day Thursday, July 17, and will remain that way overnight into Friday morning while Mercury stations.

It’s a very talkative start to this 3-week retrograde cycle because Mercury begins in a sextile to Venus in Gemini. These are chatty and spontaneous energies, conducive for connecting with old friends, reminiscing about the past, and making peace or making art. But just remember that Mercury in Leo can get stuck on self-importance, exaggerating every point too loudly.

Slow down and consider details deliberately on July 17-18. Then start using the following weeks to sort through material, review and revise your mindset, and rewrite the story you’re telling yourself.

The cosmic drain opens on July 20-21 as Mars moves through an exact conjunction with the south node in Virgo. This may bring up tightness around blame and guilt (the shadow of Virgo), intensifying nervous anxiety about unresolved problems. But there’s nothing to be gained in the south node. The only way out is to relax control. To accept that everyone is doing the best they can, and if they aren’t, it’s not your responsibility to force them.

The Moon is also waning down to darkness, completing its monthly cycle as we head into Leo season. From now through July 23, it’s an ideal time for closure and release, dumping out baggage to make space for more happiness, recuperating, detoxifying, and recovering some peace.
